The sleuths of ‘Q' branch are co-ordinating closely with Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh police to nab Padma alias Sathyamary (37), accomplice of J. Vivek alias Balan (46), State secretary of the banned Communist Party of India (Maoist), who was nabbed from Shenoy Nagar on Saturday.
Padma, who belongs to the women's empowerment wing of the CPI (Maoist), had come to Chennai to attend a function along with Vivek. “They never stay together. They were planning to leave the city on Saturday night,” said a police source.
Padma was last apprehended by police in 2008. “Padma was on her way to West Bengal as part of a fact finding team. She was nabbed by police then. After that incident, there has been no news about her,” added the police source.
Sleuths are confident that she is not hiding in the city. “She always comes to the city for a short stay. So we are confident that she is either in Karnataka or Andhra Pradesh. We are investigating the issue,” said the source.
Vivek was allegedly involved in arms training organised by the Maoists in Periyakulam, Theni district in 2007. He has now been remanded to custody.
Padma was allegedly part of arms training for Maoist cadre in Uthangarai, Dharmapuri district in 2004, sources said.
