Six-year-old boy drowns

A six-year-old boy drowned in a water tank while he was playing near his home in Tiruvanchery, near Tambaram on Thursday evening. Selaiyur police said Johnson, son of Chinna Durai, a tea stall owner, was among a group of children playing on Agaram Then Road. He was last seen at 3.30 p.m. When he did not come back home after a while, his anxious parents began to search for him.

At 7 p.m., his relatives noticed his body floating inside a small water tank in a neighbour's house. He was taken to a private clinic, where he was pronounced dead on arrival. Police said he had wandered while playing, climbed into the tank, slipped and fallen.
