Three students were honoured with the Arivukkalanjiyam Award, jointly conferred by MTS Academy, Nehru Yuva Kendra, Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, Rotary Club of Chennai East. The function was held at R.K. Swamy Hall, Sivasamy Kalalaya, Mylapore, on October 18. The three winners are: S. Sreecharan, Class III student of Bala Vidya Mandir; R. Aradhana, Class V student of Jayagopal Garodia Vivekananda Vidyalaya, Avadi; and R. Chaandhini, Class IX student of Chellammal Vidyalaya Sr Sec School, Nanganallur. Apart from them, 150 others prizes and certificates were also distributed.
Senthilnathan, Director, Community Development and Human Resource, Rotary International, was the guest of honour. He said that making children read rich Tamil literature such as Thirukkural, Thiruvalluvar Athichoodi, Bharathiar’s works, Avvaiyar poems and reciting the same for Arivukkalanjiyam competition is appreciable as these poems would inculcate good qualities in them.
Congratulating the winners, Kannegi Packianathan, Secretary to Govt of TN, Dept for Differently-abled Persons, said that such competitions would promote soft skill, confidence, courage and competence among children.
Distributing the awards, S. Kirthivasan, GM, SBI, said that children should not be confined to syllabus-oriented education and should take part in competitions for personality development.
The 19th Arivukkalanjiyam competitions will be held on Nov. 25 from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. at Sree Karpagavalli Vidyalaya, Mylapore.
