Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu on Sunday announced an ex gratia of Rs. 5 lakh each to the kin of those killed in the collapse of a building which was under construction at Chennai.
Mr. Naidu, who reviewed the incident with officials at his residence, directed that an amount of Rs.50,000 be provided to the injured. He also asked Minister for Rural Development, Kimidi Mrinalini to rush to Chennai and oversee the rescue operations, according to a press release here. Union Civil Aviation Minister P. Ashok Gajapathi Raju is likely to reach Chennai either by Sunday evening or Monday morning.
Mr. Naidu sought information from the officials on the efforts being made by the National Disaster Response Force to rescue those trapped under the debris of the collapsed building.
A special team led by Nellore District’s Joint Collector Rekha Priyadarsini reached Chennai on Saturday and was helping in rescue efforts.
Meanwhile, as per directions of Mr. Naidu, Labour Commissioner Ramanjeyulu and Commissioner, Disaster Management, J.C. Sharma left here for Chennai to supervise rescue and relief operations in the wake of the building collapse, claiming the lives of 11 people hailing from the State.
Mr. Naidu directed them to provide best available medical aid to the injured victims.
