Annual dance festival at Brahma Gana Sabha begins

The Brahma Gana Sabha’s annual dance festival commenced here on Wednesday with the presentation of memorial awards to various artistes in recognition of contributions made in their respective fields.

At a function here, Charan Singh, general manager, Bank of India, handed over the awards to 12 artistes.

Harikatha exponent Kamala Murthy, Bhajana Sampradayam exponent K.S. Mallikarjuna Bhagavathar, Bharatanatyam dancer Mythili Prakash, Bharatanatyam percussion artiste Nellai D. Kannan, vocalists Manakkal Rangarajan, Sandeep Narayan, Mambalam Sisters and V. Shankaranayanan, ghatam artiste E.M. Subramaniyam, Mridangam artiste Poongulam Subramaniam and violinist Padma Shankar were the recipients of the awards.

Congratulating all the awardees, Mr. Singh commended them for their work in the fields of art and culture.

He added that the arrival of many youngsters in the fields boded well for the further growth of culture.

Later, Deepika Rukmini Potarazu presented a Kuchipudi performance.
