Many engineering colleges from Chennai have found a place in Anna University’s rank holders list for close to 570 affiliated engineering colleges in the State.
Sri Sai Ram Engineering College, which was in the news recently because of student protests, has the maximum number of ranks with 130 undergraduate university rank holders and 40 postgraduate rank holders.
“We have topped the list for the third consecutive year. Students from civil engineering and electrical engineering have emerged department toppers,” said J. Sai Prakash Leo Muthu, Chief Executive Officer.
Combined effort
He further attributed the academic performance to the efforts of the students as well as a mentor system in the college where every student was assigned a mentor for four years.
“The mentor, who is a professor in the college, helps them evaluate their academic performance and identifies on areas of improvement,” he said.
SSN College of Engineering has come second in the list with a combined number of 166 UG and PG university ranks. Panimalar Engineering College is third with 144 combined UG and PG university ranks.
Addressing a press meet, Panimalar Engineering College secretary and correspondent P. Chinnadurai said that the combined efforts of the faculty and the students as well as use of teaching methodologies put the students at ease and developed their interest in academics.
Further stressing the importance of creating a conducive environment for the students to perform their best, Thangam Meganathan, Chairperson, Rajalakshmi Engineering College, said the institution was sensitive to the needs of the students and had enabled small but significant changes such as providing them high CGPAs with additional library cards.
The college has bagged 92 UG and PG university ranks.
Other colleges that are among the top in engineering colleges across the State include St Joseph’s Engineering College with 108 ranks, R.M.K. Engineering College with 101 ranks and Velammal Engineering College with 70 ranks.
