Former Union Health Minister and PMK leader Anbumani Ramadoss on Thursday urged Chief Minister Jayalalithaa to call for an all-party meeting for stressing on the Centre to place a resolution in the UNHRC, demanding international investigation into alleged war crimes during the final stages of the civil war in Sri Lanka.
In a letter to the Chief Minister, released to the media here, Mr. Anbumani said the outcome of such a meeting should be presented by representatives of all the parties to Prime Minister Narendra Modi in person.
The UNHRC is expected to discuss the 280-page inquiry report of The Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights Investigation on Sri Lanka on October 1. The report, which was released on September 16, had highlighted serious human rights violations on the part of both the Sri Lankan government and the LTTE and had suggested a hybrid court to probe the matter. With Mr. Modi returning to New Delhi on September 29 after his U.S. tour, Mr. Anbumani said the demand of all parties should be given to him on that day itself. At a consultative meeting on the draft resolution, countries such as Pakistan had taken a stand favourable to Sri Lanka, he pointed out.
