Pattali Makkal Katchi (PMK) MP Anbumani Ramadoss on Tuesday sought the Centre’s intervention to secure the release of nine Tamil workers in Lebanon, who are unable to return to India even after completing the contract period.

Letter to Minister

In his letter to External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj, Dr. Anbumani said the passports of these nine workers employed by Flitex S.A.L, had reportedly been confiscated by the Lebanon authorities.

“When the authorities visited the firm, they found the Tamil workers engaged in jobs for which they had not obtained permission and confiscated their passports and work permits. The poor workers cannot be held responsible for the mistake of their employers,” he said.

Dr. Anbumani said these workers had represented their case to the Indian Embassy in Lebanon three times but have not got any relief yet.
