Here’s a tool for students hoping to master the nuances of surgery —www.learningsurgery.com.
An initiative of SRM Institutes for Medical Science, Vadapalani, the site to be launched on Saturday, will contain vital information for those who want to become surgeons, and also provide a peer-learning platform for surgeons.
“People who have completed their MBBS often find it difficult to decide on their postgraduate courses. We will explain who should take surgery up and who it is not suited for,” Patta Radhakrishna, joint director, Institute of Gastroenterology, SIMS, and the founder of the website, told the press here on Friday.
The SIMS Institute of Gastroenterology, Hepatobiliary and Transplant (SIGHT) will also be inaugurated.
A year ago, Dr. Radhakrishna started the Facebook page ‘Learning general surgery,’ which now has nearly 11,000 ‘likes’. “We decided to switch over to a website to allow more flexibility,” he said, adding that the site would feature live webcasts of surgeries, as well as a mentorship in the surgery programme.
At the launch of SIGHT, there will also be a seminar titled ‘Learn from the Legends’. SIMS plans to begin their transplantation programme once SIGHT is launched, Rajasekhar Perumalla, head of transplant surgery, SIMS, said.
The site will contain vital information for those who want to pursue the discipline
