Whether it was the early morning riser or the student who relaxes between studies taking a 15-minute nap every two hours, the results of Class XII examinations declared here on Friday came as a surprise for a few and triumph for many city students who topped following their own examination mantra.
“Study with an ambition and you are sure to get good marks,” said Srividya Sampath of Prince Matriculation Higher Secondary School, Puzhuthivakkam, State third ranker, who secured 1,186 marks.
Srividya would wake up at 3.30 a.m. and have uninterrupted study sessions in the evening, which she says helped score centum in mathematics and biology.
Anu Asaithambi was getting internet connection to work at home when the FM station first announced her name. “There are around four to five Anu's in my schools and I doubted if it was me. I was not expecting a rank; only a seat in Madras Medical College,” said Anu, who got to know her marks (1,188) and rank (State first ranker with Sanskrit as first language) confirmed with the news flashing across television channels.
A pass percentage of 85.2 per cent was recorded by the State.
Anu Asaithambi is daughter of P. Asaithambi, professor of English in Presidency College, and S. Vimala, professor of computer science in RMK Engineering College.
S. Pradeep Raaja of DAV Higher Secondary School, Choolaimedu, who scored 1,187 with Sanskrit as first language, was only expecting to be a school topper but was thrilled to know that he was among the State toppers. “But I am a little disappointed that I missed centum in computer science by a mark,” said Raaja, who scored centum in mathematics and physics and wants to join an engineering college.
Taking Sanskrit helped V. Sharini, who was Class X school topper at Chettinad Vidyashram, shoot her overall marks (1,187).
“It was only in Class XI that I took Sanskrit,” said Sharini, now in DAV, and who wants to become a neurosurgeon.
S. Shree Raman of Prince Matriculation Higher Secondary School, Madipakkam, scored 1,186 with Sanskrit as first language and wants to become a software professional.
While joining an engineering or medical college dominated career plans, a few wanted to set a new trend.
N. Kirthika, who scored 1,186 with Sanskrit as second language, is student of Sita Devi Garodia Hindu Vidyalaya, East Tambaram, wants to prove that there is more to engineering and medicine. “Mathematics is my favourite subject and since I always wanted to be an auditor, I opted for economics, commerce, accountancy and business mathematics,” said Krithika, who plans to do B.Com through correspondence and also study to become a chartered accountant.
Nitin Santhosh from DAV Higher Secondary School, Choolaimedu also scored 1,185 marks.
Among the district toppers with Tamil as first language are S.G. Shruthee of DAV MHSS, Gopalapuram (1,182), V.S. Aadhithya Raman of DAV HSS., Choolaimedu (1,177), R. Padmini of Agarwal Vidyalaya MHSS, Vepery (1,177), T.K. Aishwarya of DAV HSS., Gopalpuram (1,176) and H.A. Shanaz Fathima of CSI Bain HSS, Kilpauk (1,176).
