Former actor and animal activist Amala Akkineni will inaugurate the Humane Education Centre at the Blue Cross of India Velachery shelter on Sunday, June 17, at 5.30 p.m.

“This is a landmark initiative in Chennai’s animal welfare movement. It is a first-of-its-kind centre, devoted solely to educating young children about compassion towards animals and inculcating humane values in them,” says Sathya Radhakrishnan, Honorary Joint Secretary, Blue Cross of India.

“Studies have repeatedly shown that there is a direct link between animal cruelty and criminal activity towards human beings. Our focus is to promote ahimsa and to bring about societal progress as a whole.”

Funds for the centre were donated by Lions District 324A1. The inauguration will take place alongside an adoption drive for rescued puppies and kittens.
