AIYF to hold protests

May 12, 2014 10:01 am | Updated October 18, 2016 03:06 pm IST - CHENNAI:

The All India Youth Federation (AIYF), Tamil Nadu State committee, wants private schools in the State to reserve 25 per cent of their seats for children from disadvantaged groups.

The government should also effectively implement its order to fund the education of Adi Dravidar and tribal students in private self-financing schools and colleges, AIYF said in a press release.

AIYF will hold protests near district education offices on May 22 to put forward the demands. Private schools have not been implementing 25 per cent reservation as per the Right of Children to Free and Compulsory Education Act, 2009, citing non-reimbursement of fees by the government, said AIYF.

The government order on payment of fees for Adi Dravidar and tribal school and college students has not be implemented properly over the past three years, the press release said.
