No announcements from May 1

Chennai airport's domestic terminal will soon become a “silent airport”; there will not be any boarding announcements from May 1. But the boarding announcements will continue at the international terminal.

Chennai now joins the list of “silent airports”, including Delhi and Mumbai.

According to Airports Authorities of India (AAI), airlines will notify any change in timings, and baggage delivery belts through SMS. In case of changes in boarding gates, announcements will be made, they said.

Officials said this decision was taken after consulting all stakeholders.

Passengers say airlines will have to be prompt.

Sriya S., a resident of Maduravoyal, said: “The atmosphere will be peaceful and better but even if a small mistake is made, then passengers will suffer. For instance, in Delhi, I almost missed the flight to Chennai a few months ago because the airline had not communicated that boarding gate was changed.”
