AirAsia to have its office at old terminal

The Airports Authority of India has given approval to AirAsia to use a portion of the old domestic terminal of the Chennai airport as their corporate office.

Airport director H.S. Suresh said, “AirAsia requested space at terminal. After looking into the request, we have now given them ‘in-principle’ approval. They will use about 5,000 sq.m. at the terminal.” The rest of the terminal is likely to be used for warehousing of products by the commercial establishments in the new terminals, he added.

AirAsia officials however, refused to disclose details as to when they would move in and the rent they would pay for the space.

However, AirAsia officials refused to disclose the details with respect to the time at which they may move in and the rent they may pay to AAI for the space. “We are still holding talks about this issue. Also, the other issues may be discussed only after we get a no objection certificate from the ministry,” said an official.

It was only three months ago that AirAsia for the approval from Foreign Investment Promotion Board (FIPB) for their joint venture with Tata group and Arun Bhatia of Telestra Trade Place.
