Aim for Seva, an NGO that focuses on rural education and health, announced the launch of its 100 free student home at a function in the city on Saturday.
Speaking at the event, Sheela Balaji, managing trustee and secretary of Aim for Seva, said the students at the free home would receive value-based education.
“It is this value that helps our students become responsible citizens. More than 14,000 students have passed through our homes to lead fairly successful lives,” said Ms. Balaji.
The free student home in Lucknow will becomes operational this year with 50 students from poor and marginalised communities.
“Our journey is not complete. Our vision 2020 is to set up 300 free student homes, which means another 200 in the next seven years,” said Ms. Balaji.
Chief postmaster general of Tamil Nadu circle, Indu Gupta, launched a special cover to mark the occasion.
Aim for Seva was established in 2000 with the aim of making education accessible to children in rural areas. The students have excelled in academics with impressive pass rates in the past four years.
