O.S. Manian, AIADMK MP from Mayiladuthurai, was assaulted allegedly by a group of his party men at Vedaranyam on Thursday night. Party cadres staged a protest demonstration here on Friday demanding the arrest of persons involved in the assault on Mr. Manian.
Mr. Manian, who has been admitted for treatment at the Nagapattinam General Hospital, was assaulted by a mob, outside a wedding party at South Marudhur in Vedaranyam. Inner-party feud is reported to be the cause of the assault.
According to sources, shuffling of office bearers of AIADMK’s Vedaranyam unit is said to have irked party’s former secretary Pazhaniappan and his supporters. Mr. Pazhaniappan was removed from his post as the Vedaranyam Union Secretary and was replaced by Sivanandham on Thursday.
Jayalalitha Peravai district secretary Ravichandran and two others were injured and a few vehicles were also damaged in the attack. Mr. Manian suffered injuries around his left eye and on the limbs.
A First Information Report has been filed at the Vaimedu Police Station against 36 people, including Mr. Pazhaniappan, and 10 persons have been arrested. Party cadre here have been demanding the arrest of Mr. Pazhaniappan.
