Normalcy returned to the southern suburbs on Tuesday, days after the tension following the conviction of former Chief Minister Jayalalithaa.
Buses plied regularly, shops remained open and no untoward incident was reported till late evening.
However, hunger strikes continued to hamper routine life in some parts. In Ullagaram, AIADMK partymen led by Chennai Corporation councillor J.K. Manikandan undertook a procession shouting slogans against the verdict pronounced by the Karnataka court.
They burnt an effigy of BJP member Subramanian Swamy and shouted slogans against DMK leader M. Karunanidhi.
The Alandur unit of AIADMK organised a hunger strike near Kathipara flyover, where hundreds of party cadre participated.
Traffic disruptionTraffic disruption was reported on arterial Grand Southern Trunk (GST) Road, when about 25 lawyers, owing allegiance to AIADMK, started picketing buses.
Additional police force was rushed to the spot. The incident resulted in a traffic bottleneck for about 30 minutes.
Fasts were also organised in Navalur by the Thiruporur panchayat union. Another one will be organised on Wednesday near Sriperumbudur bus terminus, said a party functionary.
