AIADMK executive committee on Friday praised Chief Minister Jayalalithaa for making it possible for the AIADMK to win the election by contesting in all 234 seats on ‘two leaves’ symbol and without an alliance.

The executive meeting that elected Ms. Jayalalithaa as the general secretary of the party for the sixth time said after five decades a political party was able to achieve this because of her tireless campaign.

Ms Jayalalithaa attended the meeting with her friend Sasikala at the party headquarters.

A resolution adopted in the meeting urged the Centre fulfil all the demands made by her to Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Mullaperiyar issue

“Even though the Supreme Court had ordered raising the water level of Mullaperiyar to 152 ft, it could not be achieved because the Centre failed to offer timely assistance. The Centre should immediately implement it,” the resolution said,

Pointing out the committee constituted for linking South Indian rivers could not make any progress, the resolution said the Centre should take steps not only to link the rivers, but should also nationalise inter-State rivers, a dream of Ms Jayalalithaa.

Another resolution requested the Centre to release funds due to Tamil Nadu as demanded by Ms. Jayalalithaa in her 29 charter of demands.

The executive meeting also made a strong case for retrieval of Katchatheevu, contending that such a move alone would restore the traditional fishing rights of Tamil fishermen.

The meeting pledged to win the local body polls and submit the victory to Ms. Jayalalithaa.
