The scene outside Apollo Hospital was tense. Several supporters and party members of the AIADMK continued to keep vigil and were eagerly waiting for updates on their leader’s health.

“The day I heard the news, I was shattered. I immediately packed my bags and came to the hospital. I will not leave the place till she is discharged,” said P. Annamalai, a party worker from Tiruchi.

He was not the only one who thronged the hospital from far. S. Rajagopalan, another party worker, came all the way from Nagercoil and refused to leave till he gets a glimpse of the Chief Minister Jayalalitha, recuperating in the hospital for the past four days. “She has sacrificed her life for the people of Tamil Nadu. And we too shall do anything for her well-being. That goes without saying,” said Rajagopalan.

R. Annapoorani, a resident of Thiru. Vi. Ka. Nagar, was praying incessantly for the Chief Minister’s recovery. “I have been going up and down temples and chanting sacred hymns for Amma. While I’m not directly involved with the party, I am grateful for everything she has given to the society,” she said.

The entire crowd shouted in joy after doctors at the hospital indicated that she was only under observation and would be discharged in a few days.

“We are extremely happy that she is out of danger but we shall not leave this place till she is discharged,” said Anjali David, a party worker from Thiru. Vi. Ka. Nagar.
