To ensure the safety of school children who commute by school buses, and vans, the second round of inspection of such vehicles was conducted at Sholinganallur RTO Inspection Ground on Saturday. A team headed by P. Baskaran, Regional Transport Officer, Sholinganallur, and comprising B. Durai, Motor Vehicle Inspector, Grade 1, and Hameeda Bhanu, Motor Inspector, Grade 2, Sholinganallur, carried out the process.

As per the Tamil Nadu Motor Vehicles (Regulation and Control of School Buses) Special Rules 2012, the officials have to inspect the school vehicles during the month of May every year.

“On May 7, the first phase of inspection was conducted. More than 60 vehicles were checked by the officials from Regional Transport Office – Sholinganallur, Education, and Revenue departments, and Police personnel. More than 350 vehicles from 47 schools have registered,” Mr. Durai, said.

The officials scrutinised the license of the vehicle, flooring, seats, insurance, fitness certificate, fire extinguisher, emergency exit, and exit door height. Discrepancies were noticed in six vehicles and the schools concerned were directed to set right the defects, he said.

The third round of inspection will be on Tuesday.
