Advocates in the city on Wednesday stayed away from the court proceedings as mark of solidarity with Madras High Court Advocates’ Association who observed as a black day in view of alleged inaction against the police officials attacked the advocates five years ago. In view of advocates’ boycott, the regular the proceedings in nearly 133 courts were totally crippled.
A clash between police and advocates occurred on February 19, 2009 in the Madras High Court premises. Since then the advocates have been observing the black day demanding action against the police officials responsible for the attack.
M.K. Vijayaraghavan, president of Law Association said, “The general body of our association on yesterday passed a resolution unanimously to join in the boycott called by the Madras High Court Advocates’ Association. In view of the decision, our members have completely boycotted the proceedings.”
The metropolitan magistrate courts at Egmore, George Town and Saidapet wore deserted look in view of the boycott.
