An advocate of the Madras High Court was detained at the Chennai airport on charges of assaulting a Delhi-based IPS officer, airport sources said on Monday.

The IPS official Gulshan Kumar had protested when the advocate Riyaz Ahmed Ghani tried to jump a queue in the checking area which ended in an altercation and scuffle between them on Sunday night, the sources said.

Both of them had booked tickets to Delhi in an Air India flight.

Following a complaint from Kumar, Ghani was detained for questioning.

However, Kumar was allowed to fly, the sources said.

Protesting against the detention of Ghani, some advocates held a dharna in front of the airport police station last night.
