An advocate of the Madras High Court was detained at the Chennai airport on charges of assaulting a Delhi-based IPS officer, airport sources said on Monday.
The IPS official Gulshan Kumar had protested when the advocate Riyaz Ahmed Ghani tried to jump a queue in the checking area which ended in an altercation and scuffle between them on Sunday night, the sources said.
Both of them had booked tickets to Delhi in an Air India flight.
Following a complaint from Kumar, Ghani was detained for questioning.
However, Kumar was allowed to fly, the sources said.
Protesting against the detention of Ghani, some advocates held a dharna in front of the airport police station last night.

It is not advocate who quarreled. It is a male person from T N who was within his state territory quarreled which is a normal behavior of certain males. One may notice this in film theatres. Out side the state these persons never even raise their heads. There is an old story when a train starts to Bihar a unreserved passenger would get into a reserved compartment with a request and keep silent till it reaches Varanasi the border of Bihar. Afterwards he will occupy the entire seat of the other passenger as he believes that he is in state. In this case the luck did not favour the advocate. Police is too good for him!
The admission to Law colleges in Tamilnadu are made direct from school final without any filtering process based on caste based reservations. The candidates do not know the value of the course or the responsibility they are shouldered with. The caste based groups of students clash with clubs, knives, wooden logs etc in Law college hostels frequently. They are emboldened to attack the police officials on duty in such situations. Again they identify with political parties openly. In the HC branch at Madurai, a judA Supreme court judge from Tamilnadu, openly declared that the Karunanidhi regime was a golden era and another judge recently spoke publicly that Karunanidhi was the real dravidian reformer and that the state will go to docks if he is not returned to power.Judges selections are made with political influence where money and caste factors play major role. Many lawyers take money from the opposite parties to weaken the case. There is no effective mechanism to check these maladies.
Not a day passes without an advocate creating headlines on media. Wonder
if the black-coats in India have got a penchant for news.
He was detained so he made a call to his colleagues to gather outside airport to create
ruckus so the airport authorities may afraid and will let him go .... Btw, two different types of
goons confronted .. Advocates are the biggest drama king now a days ..
If advocates behave in such a way, people will find out a way to settle
their disputes away from courts. All professionals should be guided by
their ethics and not by the strength of their association. If an IPS
officer is assaulted what chance a common man have against an advocate?
Both Judiciary and advocates should do some introspection and uphold
their dignity. There was a time when lawyers were looked at with awe.
what for other advocates held dharna.. can't the police arrest anybody for their wrong deeds..
one automan punished for his wrongfulness, all automen go for dharna,
when one teacher punished, all goes for dharna.
when one employee of airline suspended then all go for strike. can't anyone be punished for their mistakes..
This is indeed a very regretful incident. This is not expected from a lawyer of the high court. They are not very different from the general people. They should take even higher responsibility to help in maintaining the law and order.
Advocates are the guiding persons to the public to seek the offenders did not escape from the law. But nowadays, since the advocates are very much related to the courts and the judiciary, they presume erroniously that they are different from other general public and the law enforcing authorities can't question them when they engage in unlawful activities. It is very much regrettable. The recent Bangalore and Chennai Airport incidents indicate them.
Advocates are Taking Law Into their hands...Judges are Silent Spectators
& Not able to discipline Advocates....
