‘Adopt mechanisms to enhance facilities for tax payers’

S. Ramesh, chief commissioner of Central Excise and Service Tax, emphasised the need to adopt various mechanisms to enhance tax payers’ facilities during the Central Excise Day 2015 celebrations held here on Tuesday.

“Tax administrations across the globe have been constantly engaged in devising and adopting customer-driven strategies. Tax payers’ facilities have been rendered with an entire of gamut of services from dissemination of tax related information, mechanisms of voluntary compliances and grievance redressal mechanism,” he said.

He also noted that a national tax payer services directory has to be created. The directory will undertake a vast array of functions, including the dissemination of tax payer-related information and the devising of proper communication for using multiple channels of information, he added.

Debendranath Panda, member judicial, The Custom, Excise and Service Tax Appellate Tribunal (CESTAT), spoke about the contribution of the department and trade in the economic growth of the country.

59 officers of Central Excise and Service Tax commissionerates were given various awards.

Roopam Kapoor, commissioner of Central Excise, Chennai I and Rajesh Sodhi, commissioner of Central Excise, Chennai II, were among those who spoke at the event.

The Chief Commissioner also called for the establishment of a national tax payer services directory
