As pretty young women dressed in metallic black fabric, sporting jazzy bags and footwear splashed in trendy colours dazzled the ramp at ‘Showcase 2011' – a presentation by students of the Department of Fashion and Lifestyle Accessories, National Institute of Fashion Technology – the audience screamed aloud in appreciation.
While the hall resounded with as rugged-looking men came in sporting guitar shaped bags, and leather belts radiating crisp style with minimal effort, it was awash with unbelievable excitement when smartly-clad little children accompanied ladies dressed in summery white gowns.
The programme was to showcase the accessories, including footwear, belts, bags, jewellery and wallets made by the graduating students of the Institute.
Retro-inspired college bags, ethnic wear, foot wear, trendy chic laptop bags and jewellery that carried a essence of the Victorian era were part of the presentation. Gypsy work on footwear, hand embroidery on leather and images of hip-hop culture on bags seemed the most popular.
New influences
Presenting a collection of glistening glossy footwear to go with fairy and butterfly costumes was Sreeshma Sreedhar. “Witch-like costumes for the upcoming Halloween are out. Try the new influences,” she says. A collection of belts for men and women was presented by Kanupriya Rastogi, who said, “It is difficult designing men's belts because I could experiment only with the fabric, stitches and techniques, not with colours.”
Director of the Institute S. Devadoss congratulated the students and said the more experimentation with material especially leather has helped them understand what the industry demands are.
“No apparel is complete without accessories,” he pointed out.
