An exhibition of Tanjore paintings was inaugurated at the Government Museum, Egmore, here on Thursday.

Speaking at the function, Principal Secretary and Commissioner, Department of Museums, T.S. Sridhar, said the special exhibition would benefit a large number of students.

“Education is the most important activity in museum,” he said.

As part of educating the student visitors to the museum, the activity centre on the premises had also been revived recently, he said. Short films on the nature and various forms of art would be screened for children free of cost at the centre.

The process of digitisation of objects available at the museum was in progress. The completion of the project would help people understand the exhibits at the museum online, said Mr. Sridhar.

The Tanjore painting expo would be on till Monday.

The exhibits included paintings of deities and saints and painting on exotic media such as glass and murals.
