Activists seek strong head for women’s panel

May 26, 2016 12:00 am | Updated 05:46 am IST - CHENNAI:

Several women’s organisations and individuals in the State have written to Chief Minister Jayalalithaa with a demand for a proactive, gender sensitive chairperson for the State Women’s Commission, a press release said.

The organisations and individuals have also floated an online petition to gather more signatures from the people of Tamil Nadu to this effect.

“We envision the Commission as a dynamic and efficient body, committed to guaranteeing the rights of women in Tamil Nadu. We hope the Commission will work in consultation with civil society, especially women’s organisations, in the State,” the letter to the Chief Minister says.
