Accident victim’s organs to be donated

April 09, 2016 12:00 am | Updated 05:31 am IST - CHENNAI:

The family of a 34-year-old woman, who was declared brain dead at a private hospital in the city, has consented to donate her organs, a relative of the woman said.

The woman was an employee of a company, and was on her way to work on a two-wheeler as the pillion rider last Saturday, when a cow on the road forced the rider to break hard. Both fell off the two-wheeler, and the victim, who was not wearing a helmet, sustained a severe head injury, said the relative.

“She was rushed to SRM hospital and then transferred to Apollo Hospitals. The woman was declared brain dead on Friday, and her family has now consented to donate her organs. She was the mother of a three-year-old,” he said. Apollo Hospitals confirmed that an organ donation was taking place but said that the allocation of organs was still being decided upon.
