It is time for the students of engineering to brush up their knowledge of energy conservation and renewable energy resources. Urjavaran Foundation, jointly with the Bureau of Energy Efficiency, Ministry of Power, will organise ‘Empower India Quiz 2010' in the city.
The quiz, to be conducted at Chennai Trade Centre on June 27, will be part of a three-day symposium and exhibition on energy-efficient products and systems, organised by the Foundation.
Launching the quiz here on Thursday, R. Christodas Gandhi, Chairman and Managing Director, Tamil Nadu Energy Development Agency (TEDA), said that India offered more scope for renewable energy than any other country in the world. “We have very good potential for making solar energy the key energy provider for the country. But to promote and sustain renewable energy sources, we need strong research and development units,” he said.
Vestas Technology vice-president Michael Hogedal observed that wind energy had emerged as a major energy provider in many countries.
On the quiz, Director of Anna University's Institute of Energy Studies S.Iniyan said the two students from each college can participate as a team in the preliminary round to be conducted online.
