A documentary producer who was allegedly abducted by a gang was rescued by the Thirumangalam police within four hours of the incident being reported on Tuesday.

Police said, C. Kesavan, a documentary producer who lives in Melmenambedu near Ambattur, had hired two cameras from Shankar in Virugambakkam. Since Mr. Kesavan failed to pay the hiring charges for the last nine months, Shankar was angry with him. On Tuesday, while Mr. Kesavan was talking with his friends on 100 Feet Road, Thirumangalam, the gang took him away in a car. His father Chandrasekhar complained to the Thirumangalam Police.

Assistant Commissioner of Police Kameel Basha and Inspector Ravi were searching for the accused.

On suspicion, the team intercepted a car and it was found to be transporting Mr. Kesavan. The police arrested Shankar and four of his accomplices. The gang went around the city with Kesavan without stopping the car anywhere and thrashed him, police said.
