Soon Aavin will make table butter available in small, convenient 25-gram packs.

Aavin, the Tamil Nadu Cooperative Milk Producers Federation, will soon set up a packaging unit for these small packs at its Erode dairy. The unit will be set up at a cost of Rs. 9 crore.

Presently, table butter, which is salted butter, comes in half-kilo packs that are priced at Rs. 140. For users who cannot store or do not want large quantities, the 25-gram pack will come in handy. Cold storage facilities would be created to store up to 800 tonnes of butter at the Erode, Ambattur and Salem dairy plants at a cost of Rs. 6.50 crore.

Dairy development minister V. Moorthi, who chaired a meeting here on Wednesday, urged Aavin to pay milk producers on time. He said Aavin would take steps to grow fodder as, due to insufficient rainfall, grass was not available for milk farmers. He said that around 3,000 milk analysers would be distributed to milk producers’ cooperative societies. There are over 9,000 societies in the State.

He said that on Wednesday, the milk consumption in Chennai was a record 11.13 lakh litres. Aavin managing director T.K. Ramachandran was also present on the occasion.
