Chennai's film enthusiasts, it's time to focus and hit the red button. The Hindu, in association with the Chennai International Film Festival, launches a documentary contest, themed "Slice of Chennai."

The entries will be judged by a panel of experts, comprising actors, directors and technicians. Also among them is a celebrated international documentary filmmaker. Three chosen clips - one winner and two runners-up, will be screened on the closing day of the CIFF. That's not all. There are exciting prizes to be won.

Video specifications

The duration of the video must be no longer than two minutes, excluding titling and end credits. We recommend that you shoot in Full HD.

If you must use music, use original content, or royalty-free tracks, duly credited. Do not use copyrighted music. If there are interviews or sound bites in languages other than English, include sub-titles.

Aesthetics and imagination

As a theme, "Slice of Chennai" is broad and open to interpretation. Think out of the box and show us a new side of the city, or a new viewpoint to a familiar story. Experiment at the cost of aesthetics will not be encouraged.

The documentary must be factual and provide a complete view of whichever aspect of this city you choose to showcase.

The contest closes on December 13
