Social media was abuzz on Wednesday with speculation that actor Rajinikanth had called for a meeting of his fan clubs in the State in April in what was suspected to be a move to announce his entry into politics.

Posters by fans of the actor, urging him to make an entry into politics, too had sprung up in a few places.

The actor’s publicist soon took to Twitter and said that reports of such a meeting organised for the fans were untrue.

Rajini Ravi, a fan of the actor and a member of one of his fan clubs, said that there could be a meeting between the actor and the fans in April, but this was a tradition observed by the actor before the release of his movies for years now.

“Rajini sir usually meets his fans at the district level before the release of his movies, mostly to interact and take photos with them. We expect a similar meeting ahead of the release of 2.0, ” he said. Earlier this month, Rajinikanth had clarified on Twitter that he had not extended support to anyone in the upcoming R.K. Nagar by-polls as there were several rumours after the BJP’s official candidate, musician Gangai Amaran, met him.

2.0, directed by Shankar, is scheduled for release on Deepavali this year.
