Tangedco setting up customer care centre in coming months
Soon, power consumers will not have to run from pillar to post to get their electricity-related grievances redressed. The Tamil Nadu Generation and Distribution Corporation (Tangedco) will be setting up a customer care centre in the coming months.
The facility will have 30 telephone operators who will attend to billing and filing complaints. It is expected to serve 110 towns in the State.
“Now we have just a call centre (155333) with 23 operators to attend to only power cut complaints from the city,” said a Tangedco official. The Tangedco is creating a database of mobile phone numbers of customers and Geographical Information System (GIS) mapping of transformers and sub-stations in the State. “Once this is done, we will map consumers in accordance with the sub-stations and transformers. Nearly 80 per cent of the work is complete,” said the official.
Once the database is created, the corporation can run the customer care centre efficiently. “If a consumer calls us, we will know from which area he is calling and can immediately send the staff. This will make for quicker redressal,” said the official.
Besides, bulk SMS regarding maintenance shutdown and power disruptions can be sent in advance to consumers. “The consumers will not have to call different numbers for different power-related issues. This will be a one-stop solution to all electricity-related woes,” said the official.
The existing Tangedco call centre has been receiving over 13,000 calls related to power cuts and voltage fluctuations this summer. During other days the number of calls is just 200. On June 19 alone, they received 15,000 calls related to power cuts.
