Archana and Manjula cannot take their eyes off the breathtaking view of the calm sea from atop the bulk carrier MV Splendour even as they are whispering their impressions to each other. “It is my first visit to the Chennai port and if not for an exam tomorrow, I wish we could sail on the vessel,” says Archana, a class X student of Chennai School, Walltax Road. Her friend concurs.

On Thursday, nearly 48 children from the Annai Sathya Memorial Government Orphanage were taken to the Chennai port, where they went aboard an anchored cargo vessel and learnt its functioning. The initiative was organised by Rotary Club of Madras Centenary Commemoration.
