A front-seat view of road safety

November 19, 2012 10:59 am | Updated October 18, 2016 01:09 pm IST - CHENNAI:

On a busy working day, walk into the K.K. Nagar Regional Transport Office and you will see officials poring over license applications and conducting tests.

But now, things are a bit different. Due to the efforts of V. Madhavan, a motor vehicle inspector in the RTO, people who come to apply for a license get to see an eight minute-long short film on road safety titled ‘Salail Padhukappu Desathin Padhukappu’. The transport department is planning to show similar films in other RTOs too.

“We need to ensure that road safety always remains in people’s minds,” said Mr. Madhavan.

He along with a director, Henry, shot the movie. The movie portrays a chef tossing parotta dough up in the air which then falls on his head due to carelessness. In another scene a man is seen crossing the road talking on the cell phone and he meets with an accident. Towards the end of the film, actor Parthiban speaks about the importance of road safety. “We screen the film to around 200 people at the RTO office every day,” said Mr. Madhavan.
