Perhaps for the first time, children of police personnel will get to try their hand at firing, horse riding, martial arts and other activities as part of an exclusive summer camp organised by the city police.

Initiated by Commissioner of Police S. George, the summer camp for the children of police personnel was inaugurated on Monday at Raja Rathinam Stadium, Anna University grounds, and Armed Reserve grounds simultaneously with track and field events.

In coordination with the Sports Development Authority of Tamil Nadu, swimming, volleyball, cricket and other sports activities have been organised for the 1,200 boys and girls participating.

Mr. George said the camp would give the children an idea of the infrastructure and expertise of the organisation their parents are working for.

“This initiative might also inspire the children to join the force at a later stage,” he added.
