Vishal files nomination papers

February 05, 2017 01:16 am | Updated 01:16 am IST - CHENNAI:

Contesting on a plank of weeding out piracy and rehabilitating small producers, actor Vishal filed his nomination papers on Saturday for the post of president in the upcoming Tamil Film Producers’ Council elections on March 5 at the council’s office in Chennai.

Speaking to the media afterwards, actor Vishal said that it was time to clean up the system. “There was no way to clean up the system from outside. This is the only way to benefit the producers – big or small. We will work for the producers,” said actor Vishal..

While hinting that fighting piracy would be a priority, he said it was also important to adopt new technology and find new revenue streams.

Underlining that he wasn’t contesting to hold a post, he said, “Only if the producers are happy, the industry will be healthy. We will restore the respect and enhance the revenue of the producers.”

K.E. Gnanavel Raja, whose Studio Green is a leading production house, flayed ‘Tamil Rockers’, a website that shares illegal pirated content of Tamil and other language movies, for saying that they would live stream actor Suriya’s Singam 3 releasing next Friday.

Mr. Raja said, “ They are openly challenging us and claiming they will live stream a movie that has been made with a lot of effort. They will be behind bars soon.” In response, Tamil Rockers on their Facebook page taunted the producer, saying that they will keep their word and live stream Singam 3 .
