Is your child good at making up small stories with happy endings? Does she love to listen to unending tales? Well, this year, the 7th edition of The Hindu Lit for Life has something special for children between the ages of 5 and 12.
The Children’s Fest — which will take place for three days beginning on January 14 — has an array of workshops on theatre, environment, creative writing, story telling, illustration, books, music, art, science conducted by storytellers and writers.
The registration fee for each workshop is ₹1,000 per child. You can register for the event at The Lady Andal Venkatasubba Rao Matriculation School premises on Harrington Road in Chetpet at www.youngworldclub.com/childrensfest. Only 50 children can be accommodated per session.
On Saturday from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m., children between the age group of 5 and 8 (juniors) can learn to string wild ideas together and come up with stories with author Andaleeb Wajid, who has nine novels, including Kite Strings and Blinkers Off, to her credit.
For the next hour, junior children can participate in performance story-teller Vikram Sridhar’s ‘Let’s Make a Story’ session. From noon, they can take part in an interactive session that will help them understand how a story comes alive on stage in ‘Stories on Stage’ by CreaShakthi.
From 2 p.m. to 3 p.m., participants can learn to illustrate characters of their stories in their own style in ‘Crazy Characters’ by Bengaluru-based illustrator and writer Vinayak Varma, the author of Jadav and the Tree-Place and Up Down, who has illustrated books for Penguin, Harper Collins, Hachette, Scholastic, Duckbill and Pratham Books.
A similar set of workshops have been lined up for senior children (9 - 12 years) on all three days. On Saturday, they can ‘Have Fun with Stories’ by Vikram Sridhar from 9.45 a.m. to 10.45 a.m.; learn to tell ‘The Never Ending Story’ by Andaleeb Wajid from 11 a.m. to noon, illustrate characters from stories at ‘Crazy Characters’ by Vinayak Varma from noon to 1 p.m.; get to the bottom of some of nature’s mysteries with author and columnist Arefa Tehsin from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m. at ‘Jungle Books’.
Seniors can also have ‘Fun with Science’ by Science Utsav on Sunday from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m. On Monday, they can learn to use subjects and images from life; rhyme, rhythm and write their own verse with poet and fiction writer K.
