Newborn lion set to be star attraction at zoo

February 09, 2017 01:13 am | Updated 01:13 am IST - CHENNAI:

A newborn lion is likely to be the centre of attraction for visitors at the Arignar Anna Zoological Park in Vandalur, when the zoo is opened for the public on February 10.

Jhansi, a 6-year old lioness, gave birth to the cub on the midnight of Sunday, closely monitored by zoo veterinarians through Closed Circuit TV cameras fitted in the enclosure. The gender of the cub was not immediately known as it could not be separated from its mother. It would take a few more days for the cub to stand on its own feet. Jhansi, who was also born in the zoo, was named after Rani Lakshmibai of Jhansi by the then Chief Minister Jayalalithaa.
