Police deployment has been stepped up in and around the city following the conviction of V.K. Sasikala in the disproportionate assets case by the Supreme Court on Tuesday morning.

A large number of police personnel were deployed at the residences of Chief Minister O. Panneerselvam off Greenways Road and former Chief Minister Jayalalithaa in Poes Garden.

Over 10,000 police personnel were deployed on Tuesday in the city.

Lodges, mansions and wedding halls were thoroughly checked by police personnel to prevent anti-social elements from creating any law and order issues. With supporters and party workers gathering at the residence of Mr. Panneerselvam, personnel of the Special Security Group and Armed Police were on duty, besides the city police. Traffic diversions were also put in place on Greenways Road

Similarly, all entrances to Raj Bhavan were guarded by police personnel and entry was restricted. Poes Garden, the AIADMK party headquarters and other key locations were given adequate protection.

Police officers have been instructed to conduct round-the-clock checks of lodges, mansions, service apartments and marriage halls to prevent anti-social elements from taking shelter with the intention of creating law and order issues.
