The Central Crime Branch police on Thursday arrested V.G.P. Rajadas, one of the Directors of VGP Housing (P) Ltd. on charges of cheating.

According to police sources, A. Edwin Christoper of Tondiarpet, authorised representative of the legal heirs of M. Mariadas, lodged a complaint with Commissioner of Police T. Rajendran that Mariadas had purchased a 5.5-acre land in Karapakkam in 1981. In 2004, he gave a Power of Attorney in favour of VGP Housing (P) Ltd.

Though Mariadas died in 2008, Rajadas, having full knowledge about his death, used the Power of Attorney to enter into a sale agreement and registered it in the sub-registrar office at Neelankarai.

Christoper alleged that though Rajadas was aware that the Power of Attorney would automatically become null and void following the death of Mariadas, he entered into a sale agreement with an intention to misappropriate and cheat.

“After preliminary investigation, we registered a case and arrested Rajadas. He is being taken for remand,” a police official said.
