The Hamsadhwani R. Ramachandran Award of Excellence was given to Kalki Group of Publications here on Sunday.

BJP leader L. Ganesan presented the award to Seetha Ravi and Lakshmi Natarajan who represented the Kalki Group of Publications. He said the magazine has stood out for its excellent and outstanding content.

“The soul of our nation is in its culture and music is a reflection of our culture. This magazine has contributed so much to art and culture. Even after it underwent some changes, it continues to carry brilliant content,” Mr. Ganesan said.

He recollected Kalki Krishnamurthy’s bold writing and how he had continued his work despite criticism.

“He played an important role in the Tamil Isai movement. His works can never be forgotten,” Mr. Ganesan said.

Seetha Ravi said that at a time when many in the field were facing threats and defamation cases, it was encouraging and heartening to receive an award.

The event was followed by a concert by musician Sikkil Gurucharan.
