Madras High Court on Thursday dismissed a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) petition seeking a direction to the State government to convert the bungalow of former Chief Minister Jayalalithaa, ‘Veda Nilayam’, into a memorial.

“It appears that an identical petition was dismissed by the Madurai Bench of this court by an order dated January 12, 2017 as not maintainable. In view of the order, nothing remains to be reconsidered in the present PIL,” a Division Bench of Justices Huluvadi G. Ramesh and R. Mahadevan said while dismissing the PIL.

According to the petitioner, after the demise of Jayalalithaa, her residence located in Poes Garden is in the possession of AIADMK leaders, and they have been using it since December 5; it is not in the possession of legal heirs of the former Chief Minister.

Pointing out that memorials have been created in memory of former Chief Ministers like Rajaji, Annadurai and M.G. Ramachandran by the State government, the petitioner S. Parthiban wanted the High Court to direct the authorities concerned to consider and pass orders on his representation for a memorial for the late Jayalalithaa.
