The Traffic and Transportation Forum has submitted a petition to Suresh Prabhu, Union Minister for Railways, regarding long-pending issues.
The Forum has urged the Southern Railway to introduce EMU services between Tambaram and Tirupati via Chennai Beach. At present, trains are operated between Chennai Beach and Tirupati via Tiruvallur, Arakonam, Tirutani and Renigunta. “Passengers have to take two EMU services to reach Tirupati. A direct EMU service would be of much help to people who live in the suburbs,” V. Subramani, project director, Traffic and Transportation Forum, said.
The Forum has also sought early completion of Mass Rapid Transit System (MRTS) between Velachery and St. Thomas Mount and extension of MRTS services from Thiruvanmiyur to Siruseri for the benefit of IT professionals.
The other demands of the Forum include allotment of funds for provision of reverse osmosis water facility; toilets and overhead roof cover for designated parking slot in and around the railway station premises; plying of diesel/electric multiple units between Chennai Central and Chennai Park Station; electrical multiple units (cut services) between Tambaram, T. Nagar and Guindy; opening up of ‘May I Help You’ booths; increasing the frequency of EMU services between Tambaram – Chennai Beach and Chennai Central – Avadi; bus terminals at Tambaram, Chennai Central and Egmore; deployment of additional Railway Police Force personnel, facilities and concessions for differently-abled and creation of wi-fi facilities at EMUs between Chennai Beach and Tambaram.
Suresh Prabhu promised to look into the issues.
