: Deepa Jayakumar, the niece of late Chief Minister Jayalalithaa, has denied reports in a section of the media that she was holding secret parleys with some senior members of the AIADMK possibly to bag a role for herself in the party.

Ms. Deepa, who is being urged by a section of the AIADMK cadre to lead them, told The Hindu that some vernacular media organisations were deliberately publishing misleading reports “to project as if I am hand-in-glove with the AIADMK top brass and holding secret meetings (with them).”

According to her, all these reports are baseless. “I am still the same Deepa. I turned course when I saw people outside my house standing for hours. I don’t know what I can do for them in return. But I can see the need, the fear and the insecurity in them,” she said. Stating that she began listening to their grievances after watching the crowd swell, she said, “I am never going to let them down.”
