8 persons admitted to KMC; 4 severely hurt

A total of eight residents were admitted to the Government Kilpauk Medical College Hospital (KMC) following the fire in Vadapalani, said dean P. Vasanthamani. Four of them were severely injured.

Mark Allens (24) suffered 25% burns, Thangam (22) had 21% burns, Antony had 35% burns, and Iyyappan (19) suffered 54% burns, she said. They are being treated at the burns unit. Nirmala Ponnambalam, head of the burns and plastic surgery department at the hospital, said the patients had more respiratory burns than skin burns, but were stable.

The four persons with minor burns are under observation in the burns ward as they had inhaled smoke, she said.
