8 districts selected for ‘Mission Indhradhanush’

Eight districts in the State have been selected for ‘Mission Indhradhanush – 201’, the Central government’s immunisation programme.

Coimbatore, Kancheepuram, Madurai, Thiruvallur, Tiruchirapalli, Tirunelveli, Vellore and Virudhunagar have been selected in the first phase of the programme to be rolled out between March and June, according to a Central government release.

Under the programme, immunisation for seven life-threatening diseases (diphtheria, whooping cough, tetanus, polio, tuberculosis, measles and hepatitis B) will be included. In select districts/States, vaccination against Japanese encephalitis and Haemophilus influenza type B will be provided. For pregnant women, tetanus vaccine would be administered. As many as 201 districts in 28 States with the highest number of partially vaccinated and unvaccinated children under two years of age and pregnant women will be targeted.
