An elderly woman died, following an alleged scuffle with her neighbour in Red Hills on Wednesday evening. Police are probing the cause of her death.

Red Hills police said the victim was Sabeera Bi (70), a resident of Ambedkar Street, Naravarikuppam. Around 5 p.m., Sabeera had an argument with her neighbour Kamarunnisa (38) after the latter claimed that Sabeera dumped garbage in her compound. The argument is said to have escalated into a fist fight following which Sabeera collapsed. However, Kamarunnisa claimed that Sabeera had lost her balance and had fallen down while attempting to walk towards her after an exchange of words.

Sabeera was taken to a private hospital nearby where doctors pronounced her brought dead.

A police investigation is underway to determine whether Sabeera died of natural causes or if she was assaulted by Kamarunnisa. No case had been registered until Wednesday night, police added.
