A heated argument over division of property led to the death of a 70-year-old man who was shoved aside by his drunk son.

Valasaravakkam police identified the deceased as Paramasivam, who made a living by renting out his property for shops in the Ambedkar Salai area. He had two wives, the second of whom lives in a house in Ambedkar Salai, Valasaravakkam, along with their son Babu (40).

On Friday night, Paramasivam came to the house. Around 2 a.m., Babu woke his father up and began arguing with him. He urged his father to let him manage two of the five shops he had rented out. An angry Babu pushed his father and the elderly man fell and injured his head. Babu collapsed and fell asleep under the influence of alcohol and his relatives rushed Paramasivam to a hospital. But doctors there pronounced him as brought dead.

A Valasaravakkam police team reached the house and apprehended Babu. He was remanded to custody and sent to Puzhal prison on Saturday.
